Beat Direction

Photobucket

Submitted by Rikard.

Beat Direction was a post punk/mod band from Montreal, Canada (not the UK as I have previously posted). This is their only release. It's from 1984 and it has one ska song "Dream Girl", but they did have another song called "Ska-Au-Go-Go" that was on a very rare comp from 1985 called "The Cutting Edge". It was also put out on a flexi in 1985 in an issue of the mod fanzine "In The Crowd" with the mod band Squire.

  3. actually think this group was from Montreal, they were on the cd comp. "Its Mod, Mod, World" The Hi Lo Records Compilation back in 1997, very good compilation of mostly US mod band from the early 1980s.

  4. There's so little info about them on those internets. I did find one reference to them being from Canada, but I found 2 saying they were from the UK.
The consensus was wrong? Who would've thought...

    Thanks for shedding some light.

  5. They were definitely from Canada, and this mini album was released on Tony from Squire's record label. I had this on vinyl, and the flexi, but lost them a while back. I've been hoping somebody would post it somewhere. Thanks!!

  7. Just to confirm: Long Distance Beat was recorded in Montreal, mixed in England, and released on Hi-Lo Records.

  8. Thanks a ton!!!
Glad I found this before it is deleted! To a side-note, the lead singer sings with a totally British accent. Hard to believe they were from CDN.

  9. Bob's position on singing with a British accent was a) it sounds more like Mod Music, and b)if Jagger can sing with an American accent ...
No credited on the EP is Hugh Fisher on Bass and backing vocals.
Check out a rare clip of GET YOURSELF TOGETHER on youtube.
