I am not happy with how this tape sounds. It's very low sounding. The bass sounds great but the rest of the music suffers because of it.

I think I might have to re-rip it with modified settings.

  Livets spel - The Game of life. This Swedish band put out this 7" and a CD EP before fading away into the void. Livets Spel is probably their only ska song but I don't know for sure because I never heard the EP.

Klinkhamer

 

Formed in 1991 and includes former members of Strawelte, It Dockumer Lokaeltsje, and LUL. Singing in the Frisian language and playing a mix of poppy punk and punky ska, which they self-titled skabaal. They changed from Frisian to English in 1995, and moves from skabaal to ska with less punk, but more pop influences.  They officially broke up in 1997 but then got back together in 2001 and recorded a demo tape.

In 2020 they released a full-length album called Ratta Sossa.  

I never posted them before because I never had a copy of their first album or their Ansje-Liek single from 1994. Aside from those two recordings missing from this download it is otherwise complete and it even includes their 1992 demo tape which is not on Discogs or anywhere else online. Thanks to Rikard for providing the sounds and scans from that tape!

va Ni Jah Ni Maitre (1994)

 This is a compilation of ska and anarcho-reggae bands from France. I think the best tracks come from the most familiar names. I guess they're notable for a reason.

 The title of this comp is "No Gods No Masters" replacing "Jah" for "God". The phrase comes from the French author Daniel Guérin back when leftism was about anarchy and opposing government and corporatism. Unlike today when liberalism is all about abiding by what corporate television and corporate businesses like the big pharma companies tell you to do. The exact opposite of what it used to be.

KaraMamma

 This is an Italian band that played lots of different musical styles with ska being represented, just not very much. They have a few really good ska tunes but most of their music is not ska.

Prince Polaroid und der Freie Westen - Zlof 7" (1981)

 

This is an interesting ska/dub record all in German. It tells the tale of the man on the cover. His name is Dieter Zlof and he was an auto mechanic who kidnapped the son of a wealthy food manufacturer who provided pudding to the Nazi party. Actual pudding.    

Dieter Zlof kidnapped the university student Richard Oetker and put him in a coffin making Richard handcuff himself then he moved him to a metal shed that was rigged to electrocute him if he touched the metal. 

 

By the time this song was written in 1981 Dieter Zlof had been arrested and Richard had been rescued although he did sustain permanent injuries that lasted his whole life. But, before being caught, Dieter Zlof was able to get Richard's father the billionaire Rudolph August Oetker to pay a ransom of 21 million Deutsch Marks. The amount of 21 million lead investigators to believe there were three kidnappers because the amount is divisible by three but Zlof acted alone. 

This is where this song from 1981 ends but the story goes on. Zlof was eventually freed from prison but he never did surrender the money. While in prison he met a man who said he knew how to launder money. Zlof told him where to find it - buried in a field. The man was eventually caught with three million DM and he told the police where the money was but Zlof had already beat them there and took what money was salvageable. A lot of it had been destroyed over the years by water and bugs but he was still able to make off with more than half of it. In the end he was only able to launder six thousand  and he was caught in 1997 in England trying to launder a single bill. He was charged with money laundering and was given 2 years in prison in the UK. Scotland Yard recovered 12.4 million.

 This band only ever released this one record but they need to regroup to do a follow up song.
