Vital Disorders - Zombie 7" (1982)

Female fronted British punk-reggae song. They released 3 singles and, later, a cd compilation, but I think this is their only ska/reggae influenced song.

A - Zombie

In Search of the Ska

I recently had a friend visit from Germany. We hung out for a few days, drank a lot of beer, and listened to a lot of music. This guys musical collection is as extensive and impressive as my own.
I mentioned that he should start a blog of his own but he said he didn't have the time.
Apparently he found the time because this is his blog here:

In Search of the Ska

It follows in the Tone and Wave tradition of exposing those little known one-off ska songs by bands that don't usually play ska. A lot of it is in German, but I have been given a peek behind the curtain and I know a lot will be in English and other languages.

He just started it but it has potential to be a great blog.

The Great Train Robbery - This is Intensified (1987)

I once read that this is a New York band that only people from New York would know about.
This album was later re-released on cd with two extra tracks. I only have the vinyl version:

A1 Intensified / Protection
A2 Selling Guns to the Indians
A3 Hold Me Down
B1 How About a Kiss
B2 Little Persuasion
B3 Like a Building
B4 Police Feel So Tall

People write to me every now and then and ask me if they can re-post something I've posted. My answer is always YES. Please help me put this stuff out there so that real ska fans have access to it somehow or another.

This tape is something that I know a lot of people will appreciate so if you have a blog by all means re-post this. It's Skankin' Pickles' first recording and is all but impossible to find. There are 4 songs that were never released on any of their later records as well as a studio version of Burnt Head which was only released as a live recording on Skafunkrastapunk.

(Oh yeah, on this version of "I Missed the Bus" he was watching a Panasonic, not a Magnavox. It's a strange world.)

Zzipp 7'' (1980)

I have been looking for this record for over a decade now. It was on eBay twice in the last several years and I was outbid both times. Three's a charm. It was on eBay a few weeks back and, in the end, I was the only bidder.

I have been trying to find any information about this band that I can but there's not much out there. I do know that they have 5 other songs that have been released on compilations but this is the only release of their own that I know of. I do have one other song of theirs called Masochism from a comp called Popmuziek In Doetinchem that I have included in this download

A - "I Quit"
B - "Footprints"
* - "Masochism"

The Fabulous Bowler Boys - Word ~ Sound ~ Power (1994)

This is a cassette only release that was sold at shows and online for $6.00 before there was such thing as "third wave". These guys were from Texas and I think, not positive, but I think they had other recordings. If so I've never found any evidence. What I do know is that their drummer, Bill Matney, was also in the hardcore band Refuse to Fall but he does not appear on this recording.

On this recording:

Eric Tucker - vocals
Steve Fish - bass, vocals
Bryan Christner - guitar
Alan Turley - sax
Patrick Benfield - keyboard
Ryan McDaniel - guitar
John Chipman - drums

1 Man on the Scene
2 The Upsetter
3 Jimmy Hate
4 Waiting Game
5 From Cairo With Love
6 Sally Brown

When they listened to their 2 Tone records they were paying attention. The Beat is obviously an influence in their overall sound, especially in this one:

N - E - 1 - So We Go (1984)

...by request

N - E - 1 was a well known ska band from the San Diego area even though they weren't really a ska band. The were more mod/rock-n-roll but they did incorporate the ska sound on occasion. You know how people are...even one ska song (or even one art-punk song with a sax) makes them a ska band, right?

This album does have some high points but I never felt a need to post it previously until it was requested. Extremely rare as it is...

1 So We Go
2 Get Serious
3 Colleen
4 She Don't Like Me
5 Face Without a Mirror
6 Carol Ann
7 That's What You Do
8 Long Lonely Tomorrow
9 1 - 2 - 3
10 Cat's Pajamas

I.H. Ska - Industrie & Hammelskammer 7" (1990)

Four 2-Tone inspired songs from this German band. All songs are in English. There's even a bonus track* from a 2010 comp called Ska Attack 2. They have at least one other song called Downwind from a Bad Moon Records comp which I don't have yet but it's readily available and cheap enough (HERE). I should have it someday.

2 Scotland Yard
3 Can't Stop
4 Waterbed

Everything Must Go!

I have to get rid of a lot of my music and I posted a few things up on eBay. A lot of it has been posted on Tone and Wave before and a lot of it has not been.

Click HERE you might see something you like.

I am not doing this for financial reasons and I am not trying to make a profit. I will combine shipping and if I over charge for shipping I will refund the difference.

I just don't have the room for them in my house and I might have to put them in my shed. With the weather, stray cats, and spiders they will not fare well in the shed.

I had several crates of new wave records out in the shed a couple years back and the warm California sun decided that round flat records are boring and that they should take on all different sorts of shapes.

I don't want to see these rare ska records suffer the same fate as my Flock of Seagulls collection. (Yes, I had them all - you got somethin' to say about it?!)

Some are really well priced and some aren't (you can tell which ones I don't really want to part with). If it's too expensive, talk to me...let's make a deal.

The Agents - Double Agents (1986)

This is a band from Texas (Austin, I believe). They were not a ska band. As far as I know they had two releases - one in 1983 called "Square One", and this one. The first track on this record is called "Reggae Beat" so people jump to the conclusion that this is a ska/reggae record. To give you an idea of what they sound like, when I was ripping this record my wife came in and asked me why I was listening to the Housemartins.
There is only one song here that is worthy of Tone and Wave, but due to it's rarity I am posting the whole thing.

Splashdown - It's a Brand New Day 7" (1982)

This record was produced by Neville Staples and Lynval Golding and was released on Neville's Shack Records label. The back-up studio band here is made up of a member or two of Fun Boy Three's studio band. Neither track is actually ska but both fit in with the non-ska 2 Tone bands like the Apollinaires and The Friday Club.

I posted this due to seeing it on eBay recently with the alternative Red Bus Records cover. Look at this incredible work of art:

A - It's a Brand New Day
B - Actions Speak Louder Than Words
