Some of you already know that I play music. I'm not currently in a band but I was in several bands over the last two decades. Not because I don't want to be in one but because good musicians are hard to find. I have been lucky enough to know a small handful of adept musicians over the years.

Throughout most of that time over the course of 3 different bands I had a drummer who called himself Hepkat Jose the Burrito King. This was before there was a band called Hepcat so he didn't intentionally associate himself with them, although he is the one who urged me to go see them for the first time. We played everything from anarcho-punk to traditional ska, rockabilly, and a lot of stuff that sounded like we were trying to rip off the Dead Milkmen (we weren't - it just came out that way). We recorded a few songs onto a tape which was destroyed by our sax player after he found religion and decided that he didn't want to be associated with us heathens.

Hepkat Jose got involved in the whole "meeting a woman and having kids and getting a real job" trend and moved to Iowa.
The good ol' days are gone but I'm comforted to know that he is pathetically clinging to the past just like I am. He has started doing an internet radio show where he plays the punk and ska that we used to listen to back in the days.

My songwriting went into many different directions when I wasn't playing with other people and it seemed I wouldn't find another drummer who knew music well enough to keep up with what I wanted to play. Then I met Lisa. The first time we played together everything fell onto place perfectly. Then she moved. She's only a 40 minute drive away so there's a chance we might get around to recording a song or two in the next couple of years.

She has other talents outside of music:

Gordon - Oh My God, It's Full of Stars (1996)

3rd wave band with some 2 Tone style songs from Göteborg Sweden. They broke up in '97 after opening for Mr. Review on their European tour. This is their only full-length but they do have 2 EPs (I don't have 'em)"The Baretta EP" (1995)and "Relaxed and Comfortable" (1997).
I have included their cover of Madness' "Michael Cain" which was not on this album.

Comic Romance - Cry Myself to Sleep 7" (1979)

Most of you probably don't recognize the name Robin Scott. He was involved in music since the 60's after declining a partnership in Malcom MacLaren's
SEX shop. He played folk songs sharing the bill with David Bowie.
In 1972 he entered the 'Search For A Star' national talent contest, which he won, and was offered a recording contract by EMI, but, because they would not support his backing band, he turned down the deal.

Among a number of other projects he put out this single in 1979. It was the only release under this name.

That same year he released music under the name M which, as with Comic Romance, was himself and studio musicians - not an actual band.

After M's song Pop Muzik became a hit this single was re-released with a new cover to cash in on the sucess.

100 Men - Released and Unreleased

This one's a bit of a joint effort. The sounds were provided by Ronan and the info was from Rikard who considers 100 Men his favorite band second only to the Cosmics.

He informs us that 100 Men released 3 demos:
First one was "Yard Tapes" in 1990 with the songs Ball with my baby , Hungry in Dun Laoghaire, What a wonderful world and Yard Version. Second tape was "In session 2" from 1991 with the songs Time is tight, Hungry in Dun Laoghaire, I wish and Tell me about it. 3rd and final was Reggae Juk from 1993 with the songs Reggae Juk and Rocksteady 2

Skankin' Pickle - 1990 demo cassette

People write to me every now and then and ask me if they can re-post something I've posted. My answer is always YES. Please help me put this stuff out there so that real ska fans have access to it somehow or another.

This tape is something that I know a lot of people will appreciate so if you have a blog by all means re-post this. It's Skankin' Pickles' first recording and is all but impossible to find. There are 4 songs that were never released on any of their later records as well as a studio version of Burnt Head which was only released as a live recording on Skafunkrastapunk.

(Oh yeah, on this version of "I Missed the Bus" he was watching a Panasonic, not a Magnavox. It's a strange world.)

Dixo Wankers - Bang Bang 7'' (1980)

This was Dixo Wankers' first release and, in my opinion, their worst. Maybe I shouldn't say that because I really like them but this was inferior to their other two 7-inches.
The A-side is a Sonny Bono cover and the B-side is a Booker T and the MGs cover.

WEA first released this without an actual cover because they weren't happy about putting out the name Dixo Wankers and originally released them only as Dixo.

The Press - Press Here LP (1981)

This is the first of two albums from this band from Maastricht, Netherlands. This LP and their first five singles had a ska influence with equal parts their former skiffle sound (they used to be the skiffle band The Walkers). Their second LP "Do Not Lose the Beat" was more keyboard-driven new wave.

This LP includes both A and B sides of their much sought-after single "Write Off".
